If there is one game that has everyone talking about whether it will be released or not, it is Sly Cooper 5. There have been several rumors and conversations about the game on various sites and platforms.

Also, hundreds of YouTube videos on a single topic are being created; will there be a Sly Cooper 5? Sly Cooper is a beloved PlayStation-exclusive franchise and many gamers have been demanding a release of Sly Cooper 5 or a new Sly Cooper game.

Sly Cooper 5 Release Date

Cutting directly to the chase, Sly Cooper 5 is not coming, at least not for the next two years. The Sly Cooper 5 rumors started surfacing in August 2021 when a prominent insider Nick, leaked that a new Sly Cooper game is in development.

After that, the internet gaming blogs were swarmed with blogs on Sly Cooper 5. All of these rumors about the new game also caught fire when a Sly Cooper easter egg was featured in a PlayStation Showcase commercial.

Sucker Punch mentioned in their blog dated July 1st, 2022 that they have no plans to revisit inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper franchises right now.

As our games continue to grow in scale and complexity, they require the full attention of our studio. With our focus on our current project, we have no plans to revisit inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper right now, and no other studio is currently working on projects related to those franchises either. These characters are very special and near and dear to our hearts, so while we’d never say never to re-opening those doors down the road, for now there are no inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper games in development.

Sucker Punch Productions on Sly Cooper Rumors

AccountNGT and Nick, two of the most prominent Uber insiders, also revealed a Sly Cooper game in the making.

Now, these two insiders have a good reputation for leaking accurate info on the games, but this time it seems like they weren’t right, or were they?

The rumors of a new Sly Cooper game started in August 2021 and Sucker Punch addressed the rumors nearly a year later in July 2022.

The big question is, why did Sucker Punch take almost a year to address the burning rumors? There are only two possible scenarios here – first, Sucker Punch is telling the truth and that Nick and AccountNGT were wrong, and second, Sucker Punch is lying and that there is a Sly Cooper game in the making.

The second scenario seems unlikely; they can’t just post a blog with false info about the game. Lying about the development of a new game doesn’t seem like something that Sucker Punch will do.

The first scenario is interesting and hints that there was Sly Cooper 5 in the making, which is what Nick and AccountNGT revealed.

Another fact that consolidates this is that the year 2022 marks the 20th anniversary of Sly Cooper so, it would have been fantastic if Sucker Punch released or announced a new Sly Cooper game.

The game might have been scrapped in the middle for any reason, and now Sucker Punch is covering it up by saying they are not working on any Sly Cooper game.

Sucker Punch would never accept that there was a Sly Cooper game being developed that got scrapped because that would make the fans very angry.

So, instead of doing that, they just said that the game was never in the development process and that they have no plans to revisit the franchise soon.

Although it is just a theory, we can’t know anything about what happened between mid-2021 and mid-2022. Notably, Sucker Punch is rumored to be working on Ghost of Tsushima 2.

Since Sucker Punch has no plans to revisit the franchise at the moment, there is no Sly Cooper 5 trailer. Though some fan-made Sly Cooper 5 trailers are on YouTube, none are official.

All the previous Sly Cooper games have been released for PlayStation consoles since the Sly Cooper franchise is a PlayStation exclusive.

Because of this Sly Cooper 5, if it comes, will be coming only on PlayStation. We believe when the game comes out it is going to be available only on PS5.

In a PlayStation commercial released in Sep 2021, as many as 34 easter eggs (if you want to see all the easter eggs, check out this video) of the famous PlayStation games are hidden and the above screenshot has been taken from that commercial only.

Sly’s mask appears between the 57th and 58th second on the screen. It appears for a fraction of a second, but eagle-eyed fans also managed to locate the easter egg that appeared for such a short duration.

The timing of the commercial was also great. Sly Cooper 5 rumors were piling up and then came this commercial with Sly Cooper’s easter egg.

Other easter eggs featured in the game like Gran Turismo have already been announced, increasing fans’ hopes of getting a new Sly Cooper game.

But Sucker Punch shattered all the hopes and cooled down all the burning Sly Cooper 5 rumors by their blog post. After that blog post, we can only think, imagine & theorize whether Sly Cooper 5 was ever in development or not.

Sly Cooper Games: All Other Games In The Series

Sly Cooper has been a PlayStation-exclusive franchise, the first Sly Cooper game (Sly Cooper and Thievius Raccoonus) was launched back in 2002 for PS2.

Since then a total of four Sly Cooper games have been released; a trilogy of games developed by Sucker Punch and a stand-alone game (Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time) developed by Sanzaru Games.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves (2004)

The second game in the trilogy focuses on Sly’s gang members as they try to prevent the rival Klaww Gang from reviving the antagonist of the first game, the giant mechanical owl named Clockwerk. The game was also released initially for PS2.

Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves (2005)

The last game in the trilogy and also the last Sly Cooper game to be developed by Sucker Punch was Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves.

The game focuses on Sly Cooper and his gang members as they try to take hold of Cooper Vault, a huge cache of wealth his family accumulated over the years. The game was released for PS2.

All the games in the trilogy were remastered by Sanzaru Games and ported the high definition versions of the game in 2010 for PS3 as ‘The Sly Collection’.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (2013)

After developing The Sly Collection, Sanzaru Games began working on Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. The storyline of the game follows the gang members as they struggle to ensure the safety of the Cooper Clan’s family book Thievius Raccoonus. The game was released for PS3 and PS Vita.
