In this article, we are going to discuss everything we know about from the Metroid Prime 4 Release Date to all the news and rumors about it – so stick with us and read till the end.
The next big entry in the Metroid video game series is going to be Metroid Prime 4. It will be the fourth game in the series to bear the name ‘Prime’. Although the game was announced way back on June 13, 2017, at E3, the game has seen tough phases in its development.
Before this, there has been a Metroid Prime Trilogy that contained the games – Metroid Prime (2002), Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (2004), and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. All of these games have been developed by Retro Studios with Kensuke Tanabe as the producer.
As mentioned earlier the game was initially announced at E3 2017 and now it has been 5 years since the initial announcement of the game was made. The game was initially developed by the Japanese video game development company Bandai Namco Studios.
Later in early 2019, Nintendo decided to hand the reins for the next Prime sequel over to the Austin-based Retro Studios.
Metroid Prime 4 Release Date
There has been no official information regarding the Metroid Prime 4 release date, but according to an Amazon Listing, the game is slated to be released on 31 December 2022. In the listing, the game has been listed at $59.99.
But we can’t just believe the date on an Amazon listing. If it really is going to be released on New Year’s Eve, Nintendo would have made an announcement for its release by now. We believe that the game is still in its post-development phase and that it can hit the markets in Q1 2023.

Metroid Prime 4 Trailer
At E3 2017 only, Nintendo released the 42-second first-look trailer of Metroid Prime 4. Although the trailer doesn’t reveal much it shows us the logo for the next Metroid Prime title. In the beginning, it seems that we are traveling through space with many stars that seem to be racing away from us. Then a blue cloud-like structure (maybe a Nebula) can be seen probably forming the letter ‘S’ (for Samus, maybe).
Then, the number ‘4’ appears in front of the Nebula-like cloud and the cloud can be seen turning to blue flames and surrounding the number ‘4’. At last the title ‘Metroid Prime‘ appears written in the classic font that appeared in the previous Metroid Prime titles.
A text that reads “Now in development for Nintendo Switch” can also be seen at the bottom of the title, confirming that the title is now being developed.
Metroid Prime 4 Platforms
Just like the previous Metroid video game titles, Metroid Prime 4 will also be a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Although there has been no official announcement that confirms this, we can say with much certainty that the game is going to be a Switch-exclusive title. Also, all the previous branding and promotions of the game have included “for Nintendo Switch” after the game’s title – making it almost certain to be a Switch exclusive.

Metroid Prime 4 News
On January 25, 2019, Nintendo’s official YouTube channel posted a video titled “Development Update on Metroid Prime 4 for Nintendo Switch.” In that video, Shinya Takahashi, GM of the Entertainment Planning and Development Division at Nintendo updated us about the development of Nintendo Prime 4.
In the video, Takahashi says that they have to make the difficult decision of scrapping Metroid Prime 4 and restarting the development from scratch. They had re-examined the development status of the game and changed it stating reasons that the development of the game was challenged and that it did not live up to Nintendo’s expectations.
Takahashi also says that they have called up Kensuke Tanabe, the producer of the original Metroid Prime series for the development of the game. He also stated in the video that the decision to restart the development from the beginning was not taken lightly.
Metroid fans were very disappointed after this video since the restart of the development meant that there is going to be a delay in the much-awaited Metroid Prime 4 release. Takahashi also stated that it will be a long road until they will be able to update us again on the development progress of the game.
Understandably, they scrapped the initially developed Metroid Prime 4. If they would have decided to go on with the originally developed game and if it would not meet fans’ expectations, Nintendo would surely have faced backlash and it would have damaged the decorated Metroid Prime series.
Metroid Prime 4 Rumors
Well, right now the biggest rumor is that the game could be hitting the market on 31 December 2022. This is according to an Amazon listing that says that the game will be made available from 31 December 2022.
Not many people are giving attention to this rumor as this game has been listed on Amazon for a long time. Also, Nintendo has not given any official update about the release date as of now, so we also can’t deny the possibility of it being released on the above-stated date.
